CFD simulations don’t end with the fluid flow prediction. To benefit from the prediction requires post-processing that provides complete insight into fluid dynamics simulation results. ANSYS CFD-Post software, the common post-processor for all ANSYS fluid dynamics products, delivers everything needed to visualise and analyse fluid dynamics results. These powerful capabilities include image generation to communicate results visually, qualitative post-processing to display and calculate data, automation to ease repetitive tasks, and the ability to run in batch mode.

To quickly probe the solution and perform integral operations on results data, ANSYS CFD-Post software provides a range of functions with its integrated calculators. The same functions can be applied in a powerful expression language, also part of ANSYS CFD-Post, to extract values from the original data or from any desired derived variables and quantities not in the original data set.

Flow Animation

Whether simulations are steady or transient, animations help bring CFD results to life. Animations can be quickly defined, including powerful keyframe settings, and the resulting animation saved to high-quality and compact MPEG-4 output formats. Together with the many graphical features and surface and volume rendering options, such as texturing and transparency (for example for smoke visualisation), animations from the ANSYS CFD-Post tool can make a strong impression.

Turbo-Post

ANSYS CFD-Post software provides a dedicated mode for post-processing turbomachinery simulation results, starting with the ability to produce plots in a meridional view (for example, circumferentially averaged solution values) and unrolled blade-to-blade views at any span-wise position between hub and shroud. Specific turbomachinery charting options and templates for automatic reports for different types of machines complete this key component of the turbomachinery simulation suite from ANSYS.

ANSYS CFD-Post can also be used to post-process the results from all types of transient blade row simulations in ANSYS CFX software.

Custom Reports

Each session in ANSYS CFD-Post includes a standard template for report generation. Simple selection and deselection of items allows users to customise the content — including any user-defined text, images, charts or tables, as well as the company logo. The report is dynamic, updating automatically with new data sets. The final report can then be exported to html, optionally with 3-D images.

Automatically generated reports can be easily customised to include logos, 2-D or 3-D images, tables summarising  analysis input and results, and line charts.

3-D Images

All images created in ANSYS CFD-Post can, of course, be saved in standard 2-D image formats, such as jpg and png. However, it is often difficult to find the right 2-D views to effectively communicate results to managers, customers and colleagues. For these situations, ANSYS CFD-Post software provides the ability to write 3-D image files that can be viewed using the freely-distributable 3-D viewer from ANSYS CFD. It is possible to embed these images in applications like Microsoft® PowerPoint™ and add a new dimension to presentations.

Results Comparison

ANSYS CFD-Post software allows multiple solution data sets to be loaded simultaneously, significantly easing the comparison of different design alternatives or operating conditions. Results can be examined side by side with synchronised views, as well as synchronised time for transient results (including FSI results). Additionally, differences between two results can be computed and analysed both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Within a modern and intuitive user interface, the ANSYS CFD-Post tool sets no limits on creativity when used to generate powerful images to illustrate fluid flow in any desired level of detail. From vector plots and streamlines to vortex cores and flow animations, ANSYS CFD-Post provides all the tools needed to produce insightful solution visualisations, including 3D-images viewable by anyone with the freely distributable 3-D viewer. These high-quality visuals are invaluable in communicating results to colleagues and customers, helping to explain and understand complex flow phenomena.

High-end graphical post-processing is only one part of ANSYS CFD-Post; its quantitative post-processing abilities are powerful and important to the simulation process. With the functions of ANSYS CFD-Post at their fingertips, users can quickly get all the data they need out of their calculation: Weighted averages, mass flows, forces, maximum/minimum values, and many more functions enable precise analysis of the CFD results. Add tabulated results presentation, chart plotting, special turbomachinery functionality, and automatic report generation, and there is virtually no limit to the post-processing possibilities in ANSYS CFD-Post.

The final touch is automation: Macros can be easily created, for example, by recording the interactive steps in a session file for replay and re-use with similar cases. The macros can be employed at a later date to create images, charts, tables and reports automatically for different simulation results. ANSYS CFD-Post can also be run completely in batch mode, for fully automated processes and integration in optimisation.
